I remember it like it was just nine years ago. Oh, never mind, it was... Anyway, nine years ago I was working lots of extra jobs like I did back then. I got a lead on a construction job. I had done some construction work before, so if the money was right, I was in. I went in for the interview. It was not what I expected. This hot girl, Kathleen, was interviewing me. She was running her dad's company while he was away. The interview went well; I knew I had the job because she kept staring at my hammer. She wanted to hire me for my experience with my tools.
Day 1: I showed up to a small crew. To my surprise, I was just the cleanup guy. I spent my day sweeping dust and debris. She was working harder than anyone else on site. I tell you what, watching her drive nails had my penny on spike. This girl worked harder than any of the guys and looked hotter, too. She was framing a wall, but to me, it was just a frame for this beautiful woman. I knew she was digging me because while she worked, she kept calling for a stud. I'd come over, and she would get bashful and tell me to get my ass back to work. Girls and their mixed messages.
Day 2: She was putting up drywall. Her drywall dimpler had my screw an inch too long. The girl can hang some wallboard. I tell you, she can do my sheetrock anytime. She had it taped before lunch.
We had lunch together. I brought a PB&J and offered her half, but she turned it down because she said just jelly bread was not for her. I’ve got to start cutting my sandwiches in half. Instead, she made me lunch. She got out a trowel and toasted us some grilled cheese with her torch. The cheese was not the only thing melting for her.
Day 3: I knew I wanted to build a life with her. I shimmed up next to her, got down on one knee pad, and asked if she would like to solder our union. Even though she thought I was unlevel, she agreed to float on our love. Man, I was smooth.
The pitch worked; I rose to her expectations. Now she would rafter be with me than any other guy. We have overhung with each other ever since.
